Guided Fishing & Safety Info

What To Bring:

  • I provide all necessary fishing gear (besides limited wader selection and wading staff, only needed for West Branch trips). You’re encouraged to bring your own rod(s) if you have any.

  • Maine Fishing License & Photo ID. Licenses can be purchased online here on the Maine DIFW website .

  • Proper clothing for weather conditions (i.e. rain gear, comfortable layers, hat, sunglasses).

  • ALWAYS WEAR a HAT, WOOL SOCKS, and LONG SLEEVES/PANTS regardless of weather.

  • If not wearing waders, or wet-wading, wear close-toed shoes or hiking boots (preferred).

  • Bug Nets and/or spray are a must during May/June (also provided if needed).

  • I provide sunscreen for us if you don’t mind sharing.

  • Water & food, I do not provide food/drink. I do carry extra water in my vehicle for refilling our water bottles (I drink 1-2 liters of water during a full day of fishing). I also have a cooler to store items that need refrigeration.

  • Any personal medication(s).

  • Headlamps are needed for the ‘Hex Hatch’, where we will be fishing after dark. These are not provided (a good piece of gear you should have anyway).

Safety Precautions:

  • Safety is the #1 priority at all times. When discussing a fishing trip with me, please inform me of any pertinent medical conditions, overall physical fitness, and experience wading rivers and/or being in a canoe. This allows me to plan the details of our day to meet your expectations and provide the most enjoyable experience.

  • I am certified in CPR/First Aid, carry basic supplies & OTC medications, and have previous experience working in a medical field. If there is a serious emergency, you will be transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital. In an immediate, life-threatening situation, emergency services will be utilized.

  • I have liability insurance for guides, and require a signed waiver for each person (can either be emailed in advance, or signed in-person upon arrival).

  • If you’re planning a trip with children, we need to discuss their experience on the water thoroughly. They must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Small children under 10 are discouraged from fishing the West Branch, as it can be a very dangerous river and most spots require some wading.

  • Locations of guided fishing trips will rarely have cell phone reception, so take care of personal business accordingly beforehand (I do carry a satellite phone in case of emergency).
